Renegade Cinema – a call to arms! 16 April 2009

Cinema is facing extinction! Can renegade networks revive it? Eschewing traditional economic models, artists, filmmakers and activists are creating their own volunteer-run screening spaces, and in the process producing some of the most exciting film programming today. Here, as part of FACT’s Climate for Change exhibition, we invite several collectives to discuss the political and artistic possibilities of these self-organised temples of cinephilia. Participants include Cube (Bristol), Cinenova (Brussels), Star and Shadow (Newcastle), A Small Cinema (Liverpool) and Manchester Film Co-operative.

16 April, 6.30pm, Gallery One
FACT, 88 Wood Street, Liverpool, L1 4DQ
£4 / £3 Concs
Box office: 08717 042 063

http://www.thecentreofattention.org/exhibitions/action.html
http://www.nova-cinema.org/
http://www.starandshadow.org.uk/
http://www.asmallcinema.co.uk/
http://www.manchesterfilm.coop/

Action Diana residency

Artists The Centre of Attention are recreating a classic feature film, shot for shot, using the people of Liverpool as the stars and FACT, Liverpool John Moores University and the streets of Liverpool as their locations. Experimenting with the notion of re-appropriation and re-mix, The Centre of Attention absurdly push participation into uncomfortable realms questioning both the gallery as an exhibition space, and the poverty of video art in relation to cinema. If you fancy being immortalised on mini-DV visit the Liverpool Art and Design Academy Thursday & Friday 12-5pm and FACT 12-5pm on Saturdays. The finished film will premiere at AND.

Residency 05 March – 04 April 2009
Premiere at AND festival Sept 23 - 27

Centre of Attention

http://www.thecentreofattention.org/exhibitions/action.html
